Camp Details: Each day of this camp will consist of students being introduced to an engaging picture book. Students will make/bake a themed snack, create a hands-on craft/art project and MOST IMPORTANTLY have FUN while working through reading comprehension skills.
Important Info: Campers will be dropped-off and picked-up at the LOES Front Porch.

Millions to Measure
Age Group: Incoming 2nd - 4th graders

Contact: thitchcock@loisd.netBased on the book by David Schwartz and Steven Kellogg, campers will be using all kinds real life standard and non-standard units to measure things after reading the book, "Millions to Measure". Examples: Students will build a gallon man to help them with capacity and then will put together a recipe they can eat. They will be measuring in inches, feet, yards, cm. etc. in order to tell the length and height of various objects, most of which will be "make and take it home" projects.
Please bring the following supplies with you to camp:
Crayons, scissors, pencils, bottle glue and markers (if available)

Contact: lhutchison@loisd.netStudents will learn how fun and exciting reading can be! We will explore books and the outdoors as we read and then develop our own poetry. Then we'll have some fun with reader's theater and perform in a drama or two. No worries if you don't want to act - you can read the stage directions and guide others! We'll also investigate figurative language in literature - hyperbole, onomatopoeia, idioms, personification, etc. - and all the fun ways to use it. We'll have a blast making reading come alive! Making Mad Scientists

Exercise Through Play

Contact: kelmore@loisd.netThe students will learn the importance of exercise and staying active through playing. They will also work on proper social interaction with peers and teamwork. We will have different stations set up for the students to play frisbee, soccer, four square, kickball, whiffle ball, hopscotch, jump rope, hula hoop, playing catch with a football, relay races, etc.

Students will improve their accuracy and speed in recalling math facts of all types. Students will practice addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through real world applications and games. They will even gain some knowledge of the order of operations while having fun.

Contact: mhogue@loisd.netCampers will learn the basics of the Silhouette Software and learn how to measure, prepare, cut and apply vinyl to various surfaces. Students will create several small personalized products at the beginning of the week when practicing using the program. They will then design, cut, and press their own Lone Oak Buffalo spirit shirt.

Contact: mhrisco@loisd.netCampers will explore basic language and vocabulary in Spanish. The students will leave knowing how to start a conversation where they will exchange names, origin, etc. Basic vocabulary such as colors, numbers, school supplies, food items, and telling time will also be incorporated in an interactive way. Aspects of the Hispanic culture such as particular holidays and crafts will also be included to enrich the overall experience and add some "spice."

We will close with extraordinary Mexican food where they will be taught to cook authentic Mexican cuisine.
